I am Dragon

The movie I Am Dragon (also known by its Russian title He’s a Dragon or On – Drakon) is a 2015 fantasy romance from Russia. It is often described as a Russian version of Beauty and the Beast.

The Background

A long time ago, a scary dragon ruled the land. To keep the dragon away, people would sacrifice young women by sending them out on a boat while singing a special song. One day, a brave man killed the dragon to save his love. Over time, the scary “sacrifice” ritual turned into a peaceful wedding tradition.

The Plot

  • The Kidnapping: Princess Miroslava (Mira) is getting married to Igor, the grandson of the man who killed the dragon. During the wedding, the people sing the ancient ritual song for fun. Suddenly, a real dragon appears and carries Mira away to a remote island.
  • The Mystery Man: On the island, Mira meets a young man who doesn’t have a name (she calls him Arman). He seems like a prisoner just like her. However, she soon learns the truth: Arman is the dragon.
  • The Struggle: Arman can change between a human and a dragon, but he cannot control the dragon side. He hates being a monster and lives alone so he won’t hurt anyone.
  • Falling in Love: Mira is scared at first but starts to teach Arman how to live like a human. They spend time together and eventually fall in love. Arman even lets her leave the island so she can be safe.

The Ending

Mira returns home to marry Igor. But during the wedding, she realizes she doesn’t love Igor—she loves Arman. She stands on the boat and bravely sings the dragon-summoning song.

The dragon comes and takes her back to the island. Because she shows him true love and no fear, Arman finally learns to control his dragon form. The movie ends with them living happily on the island with their young daughter.
